Burial followed in New Gauley Cemetery in Calhoun County. The Rev. Kevin Tribble officiated. The family received friends from noon until service time on Sunday, Dec. 15, at McKibben and Guinn.
Margaret was born on Sept. 12, 1931, in Choctaw County, the son of the late John Thomas and the late Clara Bell O’Bryant Thornburg. She dedicated many years of her life working at Pennaco Hosiery where she developed deep friendships and a strong work ethic. After a fulfilling career at Pennaco, she transitioned to Heatcraft where she continued to work until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Margaret was a faithful and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, finding strength and inspiration in her daily Bible readings. She was an active member of Holcomb Baptist Church where she participated in various community activities and gatherings.
In her leisure time, Margaret had a passion for quilting, often creating beautiful patchwork pieces that reflected her creativity and skill. Additionally, she took great pride in cultivating a productive vegetable garden each year, enjoying the process of nurturing plants and sharing her harvest with loved ones.
However, the greatest joy in Margaret’s life was spending quality time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She cherished the moments spent making memories with them, whether it was through simple gatherings, storytelling or participating in their activities. Margaret’s love for her family was the foundation of her happiness and purpose in life.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Joe Willie Griffin; two sisters, Lillian Geter and Rose Davis, and two brothers, Johnny Thornburg and Bill Thornburg, preceded Margaret in death.
Survivors include, her three daughters, Carolyn Greer (Jimmy) of Madison, Emma Collins of Grenada and Sandy Pigg of Grenada; two sons, Paul Griffin (Charlotte) of Holcomb and Joe Griffin (Tammy) of Grenada; two sisters, Martha Rogers of Eupora and Sue Sloane (Doug) of Washington; seven grandchildren, Becky Fly, Jimmy Greer Jr., Josh Griffin, Heather Franklin, Joseph Griffin, Benny Pigg (Stephanie) and Nina Hudson; 12 great grandchildren, David Manuel, Melissa Manuel, Blake McCaulla, Kiara Griffin, Isabella Griffin, Henley Greer, Nora Griffin, Chase Pigg, Jackson Pigg, Madelynn Pigg, Justin Hudson and Heidi Hudson, and five great-great grandchildren.
