A funeral mass was celebrated at noon on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grenada for Margaret “Maggie” Arnold James, 81, of Grenada, who died on Thursday, Nov. 21, in Grenada. Burial followed in Tula Cemetery in Tula. A Rosary was held in Maggie’s memory at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday, Nov. 25, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Maggie was born on Oct. 12, 1943, in Lafayette County, the daughter of the late Irel Henry and the late Mamie Jean Neal Arnold. She worked at the University of Mississippi J.D. Williams Library for five years. She loved Oxford and was a huge fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. She never missed a game, even when she could not go in person, and when she did attend in person, she stayed until the very end. She especially loved watching the Pride of the South Marching Band, an organization she proudly supported.
Maggie worked in health sciences for more than 25 years — in case management at St. Joseph’s Hospital — and as an administrative assistant in Allied Health at Baptist College of Health Sciences in Memphis, Tenn., where she retired in 2014. After her retirement, she moved to Grenada where she was an active member of the Grenada Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Grenada Garden Club. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, but always joked that she was “on loan” to the All Saints Episcopal Church where she volunteered at its food pantry.
Maggie loved spending time with her family. She was known by many as “Mimi,” a nickname lovingly given to her by her grandchildren, but adopted by friends and family alike.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Malcolm James; son, Jimmy Bruno, and two grandsons, Brett Alderson and Riley Rumrill, preceded Maggie in death.
Survivors include, her three daughters, Lisa Thomas (Wesley) of Grenada, Carla Fox (Paul) of Somerville, Tenn., and Diana Rumrill (Bob) of Rainbow City, Ala.; grandchildren, Jordan Thomas, Ellen Thomas, Caroline Alderson, Anna Bruno, James Bruno, Vincent Bruno, Robert Rumrill (Sheri), Ryan Rumrill (Natasha) and Ranger Rumrill (Katelyn); great grandchildren, Jasper Rumrill, Cade Rumrill, Claire Rumrill, Keeton Rumrill and Rylie Rumrill and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Providence Assisted Living and Maggie’s sitters, Sarah McClain and Kierra Meeks, for the wonderful care they provided in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Grenada Chapter DAR or All Saints Food Pantry.
