A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, in Elliott Baptist Church Cemetery for Mrs. Lovie Harris Carter, 89, of Elliott, who died on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at her residence. Pastor Michael Payton officiated.
Lovie was born on Sept. 28, 1936, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the daughter of the late Rich and the late Lennie Harris. She worked faithfully for many years as a nurse’s aide and later as a school bus driver in Rolling Fork. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and watching “Gunsmoke.”
A devoted Christian, Lovie cherished her faith and — in recent years — found comfort and joy in worshiping through television with the Family Worship Center church family and the Rev. Jimmy Swaggart.
In addition to her parents, husband, James Clyde “Jimmie” Carter; daughter, Sharon Porter, and three sons: Leonard Lee Porter, Carl Clarity and Ronnie Clarity, preceded Lovie in death.
Survivors include one son, Glen Allen Porter of Elliott.
