A funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Parish in Grenada for Mr. Louis Camello Marascalco Jr., 77, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, Jan. 4, in Grenada. Family and friends were invited to a visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. The Rosary prayer service immediately followed visitation in the Chapel of McKibben and Guinn.
Louis was born on Feb. 28, 1947, in Lucca, Italy, the son of the late Louis C. Sr. and the late Adelphia Chiocca Marascalco. He was a 1967 graduate of John Rundle High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Delta State University in education with emphasis in history and physical education. Known simply as “Coach” to his former students, Louis taught and coached in the Grenada School System for more than 30 years.
A devoted Catholic, Louis was a faithful member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Grenada and the Knights of Columbus. “Luigi,” as he was known to his family and many of his friends, was an avid pool player and also enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Louis will long be remembered as a devoted family man and pillar of strength to his sisters. His memory will linger in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Jennie Pritchard and Suzanna Marascalco, preceded Louis in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 54 years, Lynne Callis Marascalco; daughter, Mandy May (Richard) of Flowood; son, Louis C. “Louie” Marascalco III (Chancis) of Tupelo; five sisters, Annette Smith (Jimmy) of Greenwood, Mary Staten of Grenada, Josephine Thornton of Holcomb, Margaret Edwards (Donald) of Holcomb and Patricia Shankle (Jeff) of Grenada and three grandchildren, Carson May, Cooper May and Noe Belyn Marascalco.
David Daigneault, Bob Holland, Joseph Liberto, Nick Liberto, David Livingston and Mitch Sones honored Louis by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park. John Staten, David Hartley, Ron Callis, Mike Callis, Jimmy Smith, Donald Edwards, Jeff Shankle, along with all of Coach’s friends from Collins Bait Shop, served as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Peter Catholic Church in Grenada.
