Grenada High School is hoping for a record number of fans in the stands at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium this Friday as the Chargers play for the school’s first-ever football State Championship in the modern era.
The Chargers (11-3) will take on the undefeated Mustangs of West Jones (13-0) for the Class 6A title on the campus of Ole Miss at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, as they attempt to cap off a historic season under first-year head coach Michael Fair. GHS earned a spot in the title game after defeating South Panola 33-21 for the North State title last Friday night, while WJHS bettered Picayune 42-13 for the South State title.
Both teams will be playing in the biggest venue of the season and with it comes several differences for fans eager to see their respective teams square off on the collegiate turf to abide by.
According to the Mississippi High School Activities Association, tickets cost $15 each and are good for both games on Friday. Charleston will take on Heidelberg in the game prior to Grenada at 4 p.m. The Tallahatchie County Tigers will be playing for the Class 2A title.
Tickets are available online at GoFan or at the gate, however, ordering them online will make it quicker to enter the stadium. GoFan ticket holders will enter at Gate 20, while cash ticket sales will be accepted at Gate 22. Children under the age of 5 do not need a ticket for entrance.
The Vaught will have its “Clear Bag Policy” in effect for the stadium. No backpacks or bags of any kind will be allowed.
Temperatures are forecasted to be in the high 50s at kickoff with an 11 percent chance of rain. For those that are used to warming up with their portable propane heaters, they will not be allowed in the stadium. Umbrellas are also not allowed. Stadium seats, however, are permitted.
Livestreaming via any web service or Facebook is prohibited, which this will be monitored by official. If discovered in violation, fans may be asked to leave for the premises.
As for parking, it will be available by exiting Hwy. 6 onto Taylor Road and taking a left to the South Parking Lot. Fans are asked to be prepared for a half-mile walk. ADA parking is located in the same area and shuttles will run one hour prior to the event until one hour post event.
Once inside the stadium, Grenada will be the visiting team, so fans will need to sit on the side opposite the Press Box in Sections S-L.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
