The Coffeeville Pirates are looking for their first win of the season Friday night when they host rival Vardaman at Pirate Field.
Coach Demarrius Howard’s Pirates are 0-3 on the season following last week’s 30-8 loss at J.Z. George. In that contest, senior Anthony Torrance Jr. ran for 105 yards in the loss. Coffeeville also has losses to Bruce (28-0) and Noxapater (35-6).
Vardaman, which is coached by Brendan Pugh, won the last meeting between the two schools, a 55-8 decision, back in 2016. The Pirates lead the all-time series 11-6.
The Rams from Calhoun County are 2-1 on the season. They defeated Myrtle (42-0) and Bruce (42-14). Their lone loss is a 31-21 decision to Class 2A East Webster of Cumberland. They are averaging 35 points a game this season.
Coffeeville has scored just 14 points this season, while allowing a total of 94 points or an average of 31 points per game.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. in Coffeeville.
