The Kirk Academy tennis team continued its dominance on the court crushing Oak Hill Academy of West Point 8-1 last Tuesday in Grenada. They followed that up last Friday sweeping the Raiders from Clay County 8-1 at West Point.
Kirk finishes the regular season with a perfect 7-0 mark.
Meg Daves won a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Allie Comer in No. 1 girls singles. Charley Rose downed Lilla Usery 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 girls singles. On the boys side, Linton Carson defeated J.R. Cravens 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 boys singles. Chandler Beissel won a 6-0, 6-0 match with Chapman Hill in No. 2 boys singles.
In doubles play, Molly Lane and Lily Horan won a 6-1, 6-1 match with Kara Reed and Gracie Hill in
No. 1 girls doubles. Taylor Kate Hall and Abby Redwine defeated Cate Marshall and Ruth Andrews 6-2, 6-2. Gunner Vance and Gage Vance won 6-0, 6-0 against Hazard Zepponi and Charlie Zepponi. The lone loss was a 3-6, 0-6 decision from Cole Bailey and Logan Carson in No. 1 boys doubles play.
The mixed doubles match saw Emily Lane and Taylor Leverette win 6-4, 6-3 against Owen Freeman and Rayley Cravens.
Road Match
In last Friday’s match at West Point, Daves won the No. 1 singles match, downing Comer 6-0, 6-3. Rose needed a tiebreaker to down Usery by scores of 4-6, 7-5, (10-5) in No. 2 singles play. Linton Carson blanked Cravens 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 boys singles and Beissel won a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Hill.
The doubles matches saw Molly Lane and Horan win 6-3, 6-1 over Hill and Reed in No. 1 girls doubles. Hall and Redwine made it two straight over Andrews and Marshall in No. 2 girls doubles by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
In boys action, Gunner Vance and Gage Vance defeated Hazard Zepponi and Charlie Zepponi 6-2, 6-0. Logan Carson and Bailey lost 2-6, 2-6 to Noah Brand and Jack Easterling. The mixed doubles match saw Emily Lane and Leverette win a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Rayley Cravens and Freeman.
Kirk was slated to take part in the Class AAAA, District 1 Tournament in Clarksdale Tuesday.
