One person was killed and another was injured in an early Sunday morning accident in East Grenada County near Grenada Lake.
According to Grenada County Sheriff Rolando Fair, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Graysport Crossing Road near Harrys Drive and the Gums Crossing Road fork. When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered a Ford F-250 with an Alabama license plate had been involved in a single vehicle accident.
Grenada County Coroner Douglas Yates confirmed that the passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified by officials with the GCSO as 19-year-old Austin Hunter Chamberlain.
The driver of the vehicle, Maxley Byron Baxter, was severely injured in the accident and flown by helicopter to a Tupelo hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition was unavailable at press time Monday afternoon.
According to the GCSO, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
