Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Shirley Faye Anthony Childs, 87, of Big Creek, who died on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at her residence. Burial
followed in Shiloh Cemetery at Big Creek. Bro. Joe Russell officiated. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Saturday, Nov. 6, at McKibben and Guinn.
Shirley was born on Sept. 12, 1934, in Futheyville, the daughter of Drury Mack and Rosa Belle Conner. She trained at the Mobile Infirmary as a medical technologist and spent the early part of her career working at the Eckford Clinic and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She later expanded her scope of work and studied blood banking at the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, La. After moving back to the Grenada area, she enjoyed a career spanning 24 years at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Tyler Holmes Hospital and Grenada Lake Medical Center. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Her parents; husbands, Hubert Roy Files Sr., George Weaver Harrison and Rufus Fletcher Childs Jr., and seven siblings, preceded Shirley in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Beverly Files Browning of Big Creek; sons, Hubert Roy Files Jr. (Threasa) of Big Creek, Gilbert Mack Files (Melinda) of Water Valley and Lee Andrew “Andy” Harrison (Lacon) of Madison, Ala., and seven grandchildren, J.D. Hollis, Krystal Hollis, Alice Files, Rose Files, Dustin Files, Conner Harrison and Vada Harrison.
Pallbearers were Taylor Adams, Dustin Files, Conner Harrison, J.D. Hollis, Lawrence Litten and Ralph Litten.
