An American bald eagle, the national bird was spotted this afternoon in Grenada County.
Residents who live in Glenbrook Subdivision located near First Baptist Church Grenada could see the beautiful creature perched in a tall pine tree.
Bald eagles can have a lifespan of 25 to 30 years. The oldest bald eagle ever recorded in the United States was 38-years old.
According to the National Park Service, since 1782 the bald eagle has been the national bird of the United States.
They are viewed as a symbolic representation of freedom and are protected species under the 1940 National Emblem Act, making it unlawful to kill or harm them. Not only does this act protect the birds themselves, but it also includes their eggs, young, nests and even the trees in which the birds have built their nests.
Eagles can fly hundreds of miles in just one day alone, so those who see them should consider themselves lucky to have had that opportunity.
