The University of Mississippi Medical Center Grenada will celebrate national Donate Life Day at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 14, at the hospital.
UMMC is Mississippi’s only transplant center. Donate Life Day, sponsored nationally by Donate Life America, encourages the public to wear blue and green Friday to share the message of the importance of registering as an organ, tissue or eye donor.
The Grenada hospital is home to an outreach clinic that provides pre- and post-transplant care to patients from across the region, allowing them to stay close to home for quality care.
UMMC-Grenada invites the community to celebrate national Donate Life Day by attending “The Gift of Life,” a public celebration featuring stories of success told by patients cared for at UMMC Grenada’s transplant clinic, donors and providers.
UMMC Grenada’s registered nurse transplant coordinator Mallory Lester is looking forward to Friday’s event.
“We hope that everyone that can attend, to please come out and support such a wonderful cause,” she said. “If you know someone that has received a transplant of any kind or has even donated, reach out to them and have them join you. We would love to have you and them attend. We are looking forward to a great event.”
Parking is available in UMMC-Grenada’s front lot. A balloon release will follow the 10 a.m. program in celebration of those that have made the choice to become organ donors and recipients.
