The Northwest Mississippi Pro-life District 1 hosted a Candlelight Prayer Vigil last Saturday at the cross. It was held on the 49th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion.
A total of 40 people attended the 30-minute prayer event as religious leaders from the area prayed with members of the community as the Supreme Court continues deliberations on whether or not to change the nearly five-decade court decision regarding abortion.
“We were really excited at the number of people that attended the prayer vigil at the cross,” Kathy Latham, president of the Northwest Mississippi Pro-Life District 1, said. “We are praying and hoping that the Supreme Court will make the right decision regarding abortion.”
Church and community leaders speaking at the event were Chuck Provine, the Rev. Arokia Stanislaus Savio, the Rev. John Goldwater, the Rev. Blake Henson and the Rev. Lowell Ingram.
The rally was held in two other places in Mississippi in addition to Grenada. Prayer vigils took place on the Gulf Coast and at the Mississippi State Capital in Jackson.
According to ChristianPost.com, 42.6 million abortions took place all over the world in 2020.
Locally, the District 1 group holds a Pro-Life walk in September. A donation box for the group is located at 333 Restaurant on the way to Grenada Lake. The organization has a Crisis Pregnancy Center located at 517 South Line St.
