A mid-week house fire is being investigated as possible arson and the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to assist in the investigation, according to Grenada Fire Department officials.
At 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the GFD was dispatched to a woods fire located on Pierce Drive in Grenada. The hard-to-reach location required the crews to travel around Cecil Shelton Drive to access the scene. Rescue 1 was first on scene at 9:20 a.m. and reported a fully involved house fire.
According to GFD officials, at that time of the call, all stations were dispatched to the scene. Tie Plant and Elliott volunteer fire departments were also dispatched to assist with water supply. Each department sent 3,000-gallon tankers.
When the scene was under control, it was determined that the structure had no active gas or electrical services. Approximately 8,500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze.
Once the scene was declared under control, units gathered tools and equipment, and cleared the scene at 11:17 a.m. There were no injuries reported.
GFD officials said the property manager arrived on the scene and spoke with ranking fire officers regarding the fire. The manager signed a form of consent to search the home.
The investigation continues.
