Detectives with the Grenada Police Department are currently investigating a death by hanging inside the city limits.
The deceased – a white male – was discovered by GPD officers hanging from a tree at approximately 9:22 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, in the 3000 block of Jackson Avenue after receiving a dispatch call.
“Upon arrival the police discovered a white male hanging from a tree,” GPD Chief George Douglas said.
According to reports, an ambulance with MedStat Emergency Medical Services was immediately dispatched to the scene for medical assistance. However, medical assistance was not successful assisting the subject, according to Chief Douglas.
Grenada County Coroner Douglas Yates was contacted and later identified the deceased as Shannon Burns, approximately 47 years old, of Memphis, Tenn.
The Grenada Police conducted a series of interviews concerning the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that Burns died as a result of the hanging.
“The police do not have any suspects concerning the incident and haven’t discovered any evidence to suggest any type of crime has been committed in connection with the hanging,” Chief Douglas concluded.
The incident is still under investigation by the GPD with the assistance of the Grenada County Coroner.
