Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. John Kermit Ashley, 91, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at his residence. Burial followed in the Ashley Family Cemetery in Crosby. The Rev. Daniel Herring officiated.
John was born on Sept. 22, 1930, in Perrytown, the son of Cage Sr. and Lucy Evelyn Ogden Ashley. He had worked for many years as a plant engineer at Rockwell. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Grenada. He was a volunteer at the Grenada Soup Kitchen and was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was a lifetime member of Zero Hunting Club. John was a graduate of Mississippi State University and served our country in the United States Navy.
His parents; his wife, Janie T. Ashley; brothers, William Norris Ashley and Cage “CJ” Ashley Jr., and one sister, Frances “Mutt” Whitehead, preceded John in death.
Survivors include, his daughter, Pamela Anne Ashley Chandler (Mike) of Grenada; sons, Donald Ray Ashley Sr. (Brenda) of Jasper, Ala., and Jon Stephen Ashley (Pat) of Oxford; six grandchildren, Phillip Michael Chandler, Donald Ray Ashley Jr., John Thornton Ashley, Amanda Leigh Ashley, Stephanie Elizabeth Ashley Glover and Mallory Magen Chandler McCormack and one sister, Virginia McFatter of Hattiesburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Grenada or to the Grenada Soup Kitchen.
