Shortly after the Grenada County Sheriff's Office confirmed the discovery of a dead body at Grenada Lake Thursday morning, the Grenada School District issued a comment via its Facebook page.
Although not included in the GCSO's initial report, GSD Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault confirmed to The Star that the deceased male found near the marina was a senior student at Grenada High School after social media posts began circulating.
"Grenada School District is deeply saddened by the death of a student at Grenada Lake this morning. Our hearts go out to the family, and everyone impacted by this devastating loss. This tragedy is under investigation by local authorities.
We understand that this news may bring many emotions, and we want to emphasize that support is available for all students, and staff, during this difficult time. Our counseling team and local churches are here for anyone who may need help processing their feelings or simply someone to talk to.
We extend our deepest condolences to family, friends, and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time."
More on this story will be released as information is provided by the GCSO.
The case remains under investigation.
