Pecans, Pecans, Pecans! We are so pleased with our pecan sales so far this season! If you haven’t gotten yours yet, be sure and stop by any local bank or contact any Lion member. The pecans are this year’s crop and selling fast, so be sure you get some before they are all gone. You can also go to this link (https://www.grenadalionsclub.terrylynn.com) and order lots of delicious chocolate and nut treats to support our projects and part of your purchase will go directly to the Grenada Lions Club.
Our club meets on the second and fourth Mondays each month. So, there are two Mondays during the month that we don’t get together. We are still following all the stay-safe protocols and wearing our masks and social distancing. If you would like to become a Lion, we would love for you to check out one of our meetings and join us for lunch. We are off during December for the holiday season, but we’ll be back in full swing the first of the new year.
During our meeting on Oct. 26th, we inducted three new members into our club. Our sheriff, Rolando Fair, along with Allison Ashmore and Daniel Beach are our newest Grenada Lions. We were honored to have our District Governor, Andy Kalinowski, join us to do the deed. He also talked to us about how much the Lions Club has accomplished since the beginning of this year, even with all the obstacles we’ve had to face, primarily with the coronavirus. He loves telling us that the only thing that spreads faster than the virus is kindness. We had a genuinely nice meeting and a delicious meal provided by Brandi and staff at Orleans Bistro. We also implemented our first ever Facebook Live event as Andy drew the winner from 300 tickets for the executive leather office chair. We had been selling raffle tickets for the past couple of months and had the drawing at the end of our meeting. Macy Wooden was the winner of the chair and it was Lion Benny Askew who had the good fortune of selling her the $5 chance.
Lions Moe Hubbard, Scott Nichols, and I are currently working on a new fundraising project, just in time for the holidays. We are making wooden crosses that you can hold in your hand, hang in your house or just set in a room on a table. We are selling them to help raise money for our sight and hearing projects. You can purchase them at Criss Office Supply, and they would make a very attractive and unique Christmas gift for your loved ones. Father Savio of St. Peter Catholic Church here in Grenada told a story a few weeks ago of a meeting that a priest was having with some of the married couples of his parish. He was telling them that a nice way to keep from fighting and arguing with each other was to think of the room in their home where they seemed to argue and fuss the most, and then place a wooden cross in that room. That way, whenever they were in that room and began to fuss, they would look at the cross and remember the love of Christ and their love for each other, and that would keep them from fighting. After the meeting when the priest was handing out the wooden crosses to each couple, one lady said, “Father, I need five of those crosses!”
So, if you need one for your home or even five, please think of supporting the Grenada Lions Club and purchasing them from us. #WESERVE
