This week, The Grenada Star spotlights Liz Garlington at the Grenada Lake Field Office.
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born on July 22, 1982, in Grenada.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I attended Winona Christian School, Class of 2000.
Q: Where all have you lived?
A: I’ve lived in Oxford and Duck Hill.
Q: Where do you work? Tell us about your job/company.
A: I work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and I am Supervisory Natural Resource Specialist at the Grenada Lake Field Office.
Q: What led you to your profession?
A: Well, I was at Holmes Community College majoring in forestry technology and my teacher, the late Carl Johnson, asked me what I thought about Grenada Lake as a career.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Being outside and interacting with the visitors is the best part about my job.
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was being a farm kid, while growing up. My first paying job was work-study at HCC.
Q: Who is the person who has been most influential in your life?
A: I have two. That would have to be my parents – Michael and Elaine Boyle.
Q: If you could relive one day from your life, what day would you choose?
A: The day I met my husband in 2004.
Q: What is your spouse’s name? What does he do for a living?
A: My husband is Shawn Garlington and he is an equipment operator.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: We have two children – Katie is 13 and Luke is 10.
Q: If you could have anything for your last meal on earth, what would it be?
A: My grandmother’s fried chicken. Her name is Joann Sharp and it was the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Anywhere tropical I guess, but I really like being at home.
Q: What hobbies do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I enjoy reading and spending time with my family outside tending to farm animals.
Q: What do you enjoy about living and working in Grenada?
A: I enjoy the lake and everything out here. I also enjoy Grenada’s small-town atmosphere.
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone from your life or history, who would it be and why?
A: That would have to be my dad’s parents, the late J.P. and Ethel Boyle. I would love to sit with them and catch up on life.
Q: Would you rather read a good book or watch a good movie and why?
A: I would rather read a good book. There’s nothing good on TV anymore. Plus, you can take a book with you anywhere you go.
Q: What moment in your life has had the biggest impact on you?
A: That would have to be my wedding day in 2006 and the days that my children were born.
Q: What would be the No. 1 thing on your Bucket List?
A: I try to enjoy every single day, so I don’t really have a bucket list.
Q: If you could describe your morals in three words, what would they be?
A: Kind, dependable and trustworthy.
Q: How would you like to be remembered?
A: I want to be remembered as a genuinely good person.
