For Elizabeth Jones Library, checking out books, reading and using the internet are not the only things you will see happen here.
In 2015 the library held its very first Library Bingo day. Later, in 2019, COVID-19 occurred and the library could no longer host Library Bingo day. A few senior citizens who wanted her to consider a Library Bingo day for senior citizens approached the Director of Elizabeth Jones Library, Crystal Osborne.
Becky Carpenter beams with joy as she celebrates her Bingo.
“I was approached by a few of our local senior citizens who wanted me to consider a Bingo Day for them at the Library,” Osborne said. “From there, I reached out to nursing homes and assisted living centers around town who got me in touch with the locals that come to their establishments and provide Bingo for them.”
Mississippi Home Care and Adoration Home Health & Hospice teamed up with Elizabeth Jones Library last week to host Senior Citizen Bingo Day at the library on Fairfield Avenue.

Bringing senior citizens together from different living centers and nursing homes allows the library and companies a chance to speak with seniors to provide information for different opportunities and allows the seniors a chance to see friends old and new.
“The ultimate goal is to allow these seniors the opportunity to see friends, make new friends, learn about local health care services, encourage library use and let them know all the available services the library has for them,” Osborne concluded. “This is always so much fun not only for the seniors, but those that help as well.”
Friends of Elizabeth Jones Library Book Sale Funds provided snacks and drinks for the event, and bingo prize donations come from local restaurants and businesses. Grancare Adult Daycare, Providence Assisted Living, All Saint’s House and Region One Mental Health Center brought seniors to the event.
Senior citizens of Grenada recently gathered at the Elizabeth Jones Library for a day of Bingo hosted by the library, MS HomeCare of Grenada and Adoration Home Health.
