It’s a new time of the year for girls soccer at Kirk Academy.
During the 2024-25 school year, the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools made the decision to move girls soccer to the spring to not have conflicts with softball. The Raiderettes have five games under their belt in the early season with two wins each over Lee Academy of Clarksdale and Rossville (Tenn.) Christian Academy. The lone loss was last Thursday, a 2-1 decision at Starkville Homeschool.
Kirk opened the season on Feb. 25, with a 5-0 home win over Lee Academy. The Raiderettes opened the scoring as junior Allie Mattox found the back of the net on an assist from senior Cecile Brister.
Junior Mackenzie Knight made it 2-0 after scoring on a penalty kick, which was the halftime score. Allie Mattox opened the scoring in the second half when Brister’s shot on goal was deflected and put in the goal, making it 3-0.
Allie Mattox had the hat trick goal on an assist from her sister and classmate, Abbie Mattox, to make it 4-0. Knight closed out the scoring using an assist to give Kirk the 5-0 win. Junior Madi Yeager and freshman Mary Alden Kirk each had six saves at goalie.
Rossville, Tenn.
On March 2, Kirk won a 4-0 decision over the Lady Wolves.
Abbie Mattox scored to give the Raiderettes a 1-0 lead. Senior Charlee Grace Sultan had the first of three second-half goals for Kirk scoring off a deflection from the Rossville goalie to make it 2-0. Knight made it 3-0 with a goal on a penalty kick and Brister closed out the scoring with a goal.
Mary Alden Kirk had three saves in the first half, followed by Yeager with seven saves.
The Raiderettes and Lee Fillies met again on March 19, in Clarksdale. Kirk completed the season sweep with a 7-0 victory.
Abbie Mattox scored five goals with one coming on an assist from Allie Mattox, who also scored a goal. Senior Lylah Kate Burnett and Brister had one assist each. Sophomore Mary Morgan Welch also had a goal on an assist from Brister.
Mary Alden Kirk had three saves and Yeager finished with two saves. Junior Ava Kirk had an outstanding defensive game.
Last Monday, Kirk made the trip to Rossville, Tenn., and won a 2-0 decision.
Allie Mattox and Brister each had a goal in the second half after a scoreless opening half.
Mary Alden Kirk had five saves in the first half, while Yeager finished with four saves in the second half.
Defensively, senior Camryn Allbritton, juniors Molly Kate McKibben and Molly Blake, along with Welch were the standouts. Ava Kirk and Burnett were the leaders in the midfield.
First Loss
Last Thursday, KA lost a 2-1 decision at Starkville Homeschool. Burnett had the lone goal for the Raiderettes. Mary Alden Kirk finished with four saves, while Yeager had two saves.
The Raiderettes travel to Indianola on April 6 for a noon match.
