Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville for Mrs. Joyce Labon Morris Hughes, 83, of Coffeeville, who died on Thursday, Aug. 7, in Calhoun City. Burial followed in Coffeeville Cemetery. The Rev. Craig Baker and the Rev. Bobby Cobb officiated. Family and friends gathered from 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday, Aug. 10, at the church.
Joyce was born on Aug. 15, 1941, in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Thomas Eldridge and the late Mildred Lavon Shepard Morris. She worked for a number of years at Holley Carburetor in Water Valley and later was co-owner of Occasions and Petals Flower Shop in Coffeeville. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville. Joyce was a loving and devoted wife to Bill and was deeply loved by all of her friends and family.
In addition to her parents, her husband, James Leon “Bill” Hughes; sister, Peggy Morris, and two brothers, Thomas “Goose” Morris and Dale Morris, preceded Joyce in death.
Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews.
Deacons of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville honored Joyce by serving as pallbearers.
