Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. John Andrew “Booker” Thomas, 95, of Grenada, who died on Thursday, Dec. 5, at his residence. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery. The Rev. Stacy Douglas and the Rev. Jim Petermann officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday, Dec. 8, at McKibben and Guinn.
Booker was born on Jan. 9, 1929, in Charleston, the son of the late Travis W. and the late Lily Mae Sullivan Thomas. He worked for nearly 20 years for John Boyd Construction and another 23 years at Pioneer Beef in Grenada. He ultimately retired from Pennaco Hosiery. He was a devoted Methodist and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and yard work.
In addition to his parents, his first wife, Edna Mae Ellett Thomas; one daughter, Brenda Gay Thomas; one sister, Catherine O’Bryant, and his brothers, Bill Thomas and Pete Thomas, preceded Booker in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Mary Alice Grubbs Thomas; two daughters, Andrea Janet Keith (Wil) of Baton Rouge, La., and Jennifer T. Turner (Bernard) of Grenada; one sister, Minnie Mae Vick of Water Valley and two grandchildren, Bethany Turner (Justin True) and Heath Turner (Ariel).
Carter Brandon, Keith Graham, Joe Snider, Harper Thomas, Bernard Turner and Heath Turner honored Booker by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Oddfellows Cemetery. Ronnie Merriman and Robert Philley served as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to his devoted caregivers, Wanda Jones, Tasha Forrest and Linda Chrisman, for the wonderful care and attention Booker received.
