A funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grenada for Mr. James Ernest Cook Sr., 83, of Grenada, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at his residence. Burial followed in the Cook Family Cemetery. The family received friends from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service on Monday, Oct. 14, at the church.
James was born on Jan. 11, 1941, in Tillatoba, the son of Ernest and Bessie Womble Cook. He was a graduate of Oakland High School and Northwest Junior College. James worked for several years at Otasco in Grenada and garnered numerous sales awards with the company. In 1976, he founded Cook’s Appliance and Furniture, a business his family continues to operate to this day.
James enjoyed hunting, fishing and coin collecting. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grenada and was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He will long be remembered as a loving husband and father.
His parents preceded James in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 54 years, Grace Michele Cook; son, James Ernest Cook Jr. of Grenada; brother, William Cook (Diane) of Tillatoba; two grandsons, Andrew James Cook and Phillip Charles Cook, and a great granddaughter, Leia Grace Cook.
Andrew Cook, John Cook, John Austin Cook, Phillip Cook, Will Cook and Raymond Liberto honored James by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in the Cook Family Cemetery.
