Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Duck Hill Baptist Church for Mr. Horace Wayne Miller, 84, of Duck Hill, who died on Friday, Feb. 7, in Oxford. Burial with honors rendered by the Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard followed in Eskridge Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Palmertree officiated. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 9, and one hour prior to the service on Monday, Feb. 10, all at Duck Hill Baptist Church.
Wayne was born on Dec. 2, 1940, in Winona, the son of Edward Clark and Wilma Ligon Miller. He enjoyed a long, successful career with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety retiring as a captain with the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Bureau of Investigation. He was a faithful and devoted member of Duck Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include, his wife of 65 years, Rose Ann Heath Miller; three sons, Mark Miller (Dot) of Greenwood, Jim Miller (Lana) of Carroll County and Mike Miller (Alicia) of Coldwater; two sisters, Marjorie Gillmore of Estero, Fla., and Sandra Rosamond of Elliott; four grandchildren, Drew Miller of Oxford, Matt Miller (Megan) of St. Louis, Mo., Michael Miller of Oxford and Brendi Miller of Aberdeen and three great grandchildren, Anna Rose Miller, Hallie Hahn and Nadia Miller.
Drew Miller, Jim Miller, Mark Miller, Matt Miller, Michael Miller and Mike Miller honored Wayne by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Eskridge Cemetery. Kevin Horan, John McCormick, Ricardo “Butler” White and members of Wayne’s Sunday school class served as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Duck Hill Baptist Church or the Eskridge Cemetery Fund.
