Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Harvey Eugene Brewer, 89, of Grenada, who passed from this earthly life to his eternal home with God on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada. Bro. Rickey Harris and Bro. Jimmy Hood officiated. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday, Dec. 21, at McKibben and Guinn.
Gene was born on Aug. 8, 1935, in Coffeeville, the son of the late John Madison Brewer and the late Mary Olive Carver Brewer. He was a graduate of John Rundle High School in Grenada. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. In 1956, he married Wilma Ellene Nail. They have been happily married 68 years. His working career involved being in business with his father and brother at Brewer and Sons Motor Co. Upon his father’s retirement, he opened his own business, Brewer Glass Co., which he operated for 28 years. Following his retirement from his business, he drove automobiles for a local car dealership.
Gene was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Grenada where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and director, and went on mission trips. He was a member and officer of Big Oak Hunting Club and manager of the family farm. Being skilled with his hands, he created many pieces of woodwork. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He did much wildlife photography, particularly pictures of birds.
In addition to his parents, his son, Joseph Brewer; one daughter, Martha Rose Brewer, and his brother, Thomas Carver Brewer, preceded Gene in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Ellene; one daughter, Rebecca Roland (Mike); four grandchildren, Alicia Kyle (Stan), Jonathan Williams (Nikki), Eric Williams (Rebecca) and Josh Williams; nine great grandchildren, Brooke Edwards, Devin Mayhan, Blake Mayhan, Layten Williams, Harlee Williams, Bryce Williams, Kyleigh Williams, August Williams and Liam Williams; four great-great grandchildren, Kyler Edwards, Skyler Edwards, Roman Mayhan and Ayla Mayhan, and two sisters, Jessie Brewer of Garden Ridge, Texas, and Caroline Edge of Keene, N.H.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Williams, Eric Williams, Layten Williams, Bryce Williams, Blake Mayhan and John Carver Brewer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Hebron Baptist Church or the charity of choice.
