Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 29, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Harold Reed Smith, 59, of Grenada, who died on Friday, May 26, at his residence. Burial followed in the Smith family plot in the Crowder Cemetery. The Rev. Harvey Vance officiated. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to service time on Monday, May 29, at McKibben and Guinn.
Reed was born on Jan. 15, 1964, in Memphis, Tenn., the son of the late Wilton Harold and the late Martha Raye Moore Smith. He worked for a number of years at Modine in Grenada and also as a maintenance supervisor at the Lynd Co. He possessed many skills and particularly enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. In his spare time, he loved riding his motorcycle and cherished the many friendships he made through riding.
Reed also took pride in spreading joy and cheer each year at Christmastime when he would put on his Santa Claus suit. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and his family. Reed’s death leaves a hole in the hearts of many who loved him. He will be missed for many years to come.
In addition to his parents, one brother, Harold Dewayne Smith, preceded Reed in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Marilyn Jackson Smith; three sons, Walter Cornelius Smith of Tupelo, Daniel Sossaman Jr. of Cascilla and Bailey Sossaman (Samantha) of Rosebloom; two stepdaughters, Dee Dee Buras and Tammy Baldos; one brother, Mark Smith (Stephanie) of Biloxi; two grandchildren, Charity Gaviorno (Lucas) and Jody Baldos; one great grandchild, Neli Ann Gaviorno and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Curtis Lauderdale, James Nix, David Smith, Tucker Smith, Bailey Sossaman, Daniel Sossaman Jr., Robert Earl Upchurch and Bill Woods. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Flowers, John Morgan and George Peace.
