The Grenada Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a Grenada man that was shot two weeks ago and died late last week.
According to Police Chief George Douglas a man he identified as Markeysion Hughes died of his injuries following the Jan. 22, shooting.
“We’re looking into the shooting death of Mr. Hughes and we’re looking into this as a murder investigation also,” Douglas said.
Hughes was shot early on the Friday morning of Jan. 22, at a convenience store at the Highway 8 and 51 intersection. According to Detective Commander Kenith Sanders the shooting happened after midnight.
Hughes was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and later airlifted to a Jackson hospital. He died days later, according to authorities.
Although no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, officers said they are working to make an arrest soon.
This is the second shooting death that the Grenada Police Department has investigated this year. Also last month, police arrested three people in connection with a shooting on the 200 block of Spain Drive. A woman identified as Beverly Black died from injuries after being shot. Those arrested were Malaysia Sawyer, 18, Aliya Harbin, 18, and Jimmy Sawyer, 50.
