A total of 12 softball teams and 30 baseball teams will be in Grenada beginning Thursday at the Kirk Auto Group Sports Complex for Dizzy Dean Baseball and Softball North State Tournaments.
Locally, Grenada Recreation and Grenada Youth League will have two teams each taking part in the tournaments, which will run through Sunday at the Complex.
In softball, the Grenada Youth League 8-under All-Stars open action at 10 a.m. Thursday against Hernando. At 2:30 p.m., the Grenada Recreation All-Stars face the winner of the Yazoo All-Stars and Senatobia All-Stars. In addition to the teams from Grenada and their opening round opponents, there will be teams from Southaven, Indianola, Greenwood, Cleveland, Batesville, Washington County and Union.
In the 8-under boys tournament, Grenada Youth League opens the tournament against the Cal-Chick (Calhoun-Chickasaw) American at 11:30 a.m. Grenada Recreation faces Cleveland National at 1 p.m.
Other teams in the 8-under boys tournament include Clarksdale, Hernando Black, Indianola, Washington County, Cal-Chick National, Horn Lake, Bruce, East Union, Greenwood, Mooreville, Hernando Heat, J.P. Hudson of Batesville, Cleveland American and Southaven.
The 12-under boys’ age group sees Grenada Recreation open play at 10 a.m. against Indianola. Grenada Youth League faces J.P. Hudson of Batesville at noon. Other teams in the tournament include Clarksdale, Mooreville, Washington County, Southaven, Mantachie, Greenwood, East Union and Cleveland.
Admission is $10 per person. Ages 3-under are free.
