In the last two weeks, the Grenada Middle School Lady Chargers have played 11 games in the last two weeks played 11 games, winning seven games to improve their overall record to 12-6-1.
Caledonia
In their final game before Spring Break on March 6, GMS downed Caledonia 12-4 in Game 1 and lost a 2-0 decision in Game 2 on March 6.
Lexie Burton led the offense in the opener with a grand slam home run and 4 RBI. Adalyn Slaughter (2 runs), Paige Cook (RBI, 2 runs), Kendall Trimble (run), Blakely Jenkins (RBI), Olivia Watson (2 RBI, run), Madilyn Tucker (run) and Lauren Kendall (run) each chipped in with singles.
Burton was the winning pitcher going 3 innings (2 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned run, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts).
The offense managed just hits from Olivia Deason and Timya Taylor in Game.
Guntown
In a home game on March 5, GMS lost a 12-1 decision to Guntown. The Lady Chargers were held hitless.
Oxford
GMS swept Class 7A Oxford on March 3 by scores of 12-0 and 7-2 in Grenada.
In Game 1, Ally Montgomery, Kristen Jackson and Khloe Jackson each finished with a triple. Paige Cooke was the leading hitter going 2-for-3 (3 RBI, 2 runs), while Kendall Trimble was 2-for-2 (2 RBI, 2 runs). Bailey Jenkins was 1-for-2 (RBI, 2 runs) and Lauren Kendall was 1-for-2 (RBI, run).
Watson (4 innings, 3 hits, walk, 2 strikeouts) was the winning pitcher.
In Game 2, Lexie Burton and Olivia Deason combined to pitch a no-hitter, walking 6 and striking out 4.
Offensively, Lexie Burton led the four-hit attack with a triple. Kristen Jackson and Madilyn Tucker each had a single. Kailyn Kirk chipped in with a single.
Lafayette
On March 2, the Lady Chargers split a doubleheader with the Commodores, winning 6-4 and losing 11-1 in Oxford.
Kristen Jackson led a four-hit attack with a double and a run scored. Paige Cook (triple, RBI, run), Blakely Jenkins and Khloe Jackson (2 RBI, run) chipped in offensively with one hit each. Ally Montgomery and Adalyn Slaughter scored one run apiece.
Olivia Watson was the winning pitcher with 4 innings (4 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs, 3 strikeouts) of work.
In Game 2, the Lady Chargers were held hitless scoring their lone run in the first inning.
Houston
In tournament action in Grenada on Feb. 28, the Lady Chargers outhit the Lady Toppers 10-1 to win a 7-2 decision.
Ally Montgomery (2 runs) and Kendall Trimble (run) both had two hits. McKinley Tucker had two hits (3 RBI), while Kristen Jackson scored two runs to go with a hit. Olivia Watson had a hit (2 RBI, run) and Averi Hood finished with one hit.
Watson (2 innings, 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 earned run) and Deason (1 inning, 1 strikeout).
Tupelo
In Game 2 of the tournament, Kyler Morris was 2-for-2 (2 RBI, 2 runs), while Paige Cook was 2-for-2 (2 runs). Kendall Trimble (RBI, 2 runs), Blakely Jenkins had a hit (RBI) and Kailyn Reed added a hit (RBI, run). Khloe Jackson, Kailyn Kirk, Olivia Deason, Kennedy Card and Lauren Kendall all scored a run each.
Burton was the winning pitcher with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.
South Panola
A four-run fifth inning was the difference in Game 1 as South Panola won a 10-9 decision over GMS on Feb. 23.
The Lady Chargers were outhit 11-6 in the contest and committed seven errors. Kendall Trimble led the offense going 2-for-3 (2 runs). Adalyn Slaughter (run, 2 walks), Paige Cook (RBI, 2 runs), Blakely Jenkins (RBI) and Lauren Kendall (run) each finished with a single. Kristen Jackson drove home a run, while Timya Taylor and Khloe Jackson each scored a run.
Olivia Watson was the losing pitcher allowing 11 hits.
In Game 2, the Lady Chargers scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 10-2 win.
Kyler Morris (RBI) and Kaleigh Reed (2 RBI) led the six-hit attack with a double each. Khloe Jackson was 1-for-2 (RBI, 2 runs), while Paige Cook chipped in with a single (RBI, 2 runs). Quinn Deason had a hit and an RBI and Kennedy Card chipped in with a single. Olivia Harper, Lexie Burton, Kailyn Kirk and McKinley Tucker all scored one run each.
Deason pitched 2 innings (3 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, strikeout) followed by Burton, who went .2 innings (2 strikeouts, walk).
GMS hosted traveled to Guntown Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time. The Lady Chargers host South Panola at 4 p.m. Thursday.
