One that got away and two blowout wins. That was the week for the Lady Chargers, which improved their overall record to 14-3.
The week opened last Tuesday with a 50-47 Class 6A, Region 1 loss at Lake Cormorant.
It was another big night for senior Carlei Brown, who had 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. Junior Addyson White added 12 points and classmate August Hardiman chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Senior Madison Woodard had 4 points, 5 assists, 4 steals and 7 rebounds. Classmate Rhiannna Sanders had 3 points and 2 rebounds, while junior Kalysia Tedford scored 2 points and had two steals.
Last Thursday, GHS won a 57-22 decision at Coahoma County. Brown finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. White scored 10 points and added 4 steals and 3 assists. Hardiman chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Sanders scored 4 points and had 2 rebounds, while Woodard chipped in 4 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Junior Kaylee Barnes also finished with 4 points. Senior Corsala Hayes added 3 rebounds. Sophomore Lexi Bratcher had 2 points, while junior Erica Moss and senior Jamaya Hubbard each had one point.
The week ended last Saturday with a 67-33 win over Coffeeville at the Dr. MLK Jr. Tournament in Grenada.
Brown had 20 points and 12 rebounds. Woodard added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Hardiman had 10 points and 6 rebounds.
White chipped in 6 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Moss had 6 points and 3 rebounds. Barnes scored 4 points and pulled down 2 rebounds, while Bratcher had 4 points and 3 rebounds. Sophomore Marie Farmer had 2 points, along with Hubbard. Sanders scored 2 points and added 3 blocks.
Boys
The Chargers finished the week 1-2 with the lone win coming last Saturday at home, 62-36, over rival Cofffeeville.
Junior Garran Edwards was the top scorer with 15 points, going 1-for-1 on three-pointers, 5-of-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line. He added 7 rebounds. Classmate Braylon Hardiman had 13 points and 5 assists. Freshman Tyler Edwards scored 11 points and senior Brody Jackson scored 10 points.
Senior Nathan Woods had 5 points, while sophomore Cory Hawkins scored 4 points. Senior Marcus Wiggins and sophomore Hosh Guess both had 2 points.
The week started last Tuesdsay with 71-50 loss to Lake Cormorant. Hardiman and Jackson led the scoring with 16 points. Tyler Edwards had 6 points and Garran Edwards scored 2 points. Junior Fletcher Harges Jr. added 2 points.
Last Thursday, the Chargers lost a 55-30 decision at Coahoma County.
GHS trailed 31-13 at halftime.
Hardiman paced the scoring with 15 points. Wiggins would add 7 points. Freshman Eden Johnson scored 3 points. Tyler Edwards and Jackson both scored 2 points, while Garran Edwards finished with one point.
Grenada hosted South Panola Monday and traveled to Olive Branch Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.
