In an effort to help fill the stadium with Grenada High School Charger football fans this Friday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the campus of the University of Mississippi, Grenada’s Christmas Parade has been rescheduled.
Originally scheduled to step off at 6 p.m. this Friday night, Dec. 1, the parade has been moved to Monday, Dec. 4, after the Chargers won the North State title last Friday night over South Panola earning them a spot in the State Championship game scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night.
The move also gives the Chamber more time to add participants.
“We are still accepting parade entry forms,” Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce COO Allyson Coleman said. “Please call or email Alexia Gavin at (662) 226-2571 or alexia@grenadameansbusiness.com to get signed up.”
Cash prizes will be awarded for this year’s float competition.
“We would like to recognize our very own Grenada High School and Kirk Academy football teams for an outstanding season,” Coleman concluded.
The Chargers (11-3) defeated the Tigers 33-21 in Batesville to punch their ticket to the title game. They will take on the undefeated West Jones Mustangs (13-0) for the state title.
Kirk Academy (12-1) finished runner-up in the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class AAA after losing to St. Joseph Catholic School of Greenville 6-0 in the championship game on Nov. 17, in Jackson.
Line up for the 6 p.m. Christmas Parade, sponsored by Atmos Energy, will begin at 5 p.m.
