Less than six hours after a murder investigation began in Grenada County, shots rang out early Friday morning in the 300 block of Mound Street in the heart of the city.
Upon arrival, Grenada Police Department officers discovered that a black male subject, later identified as 33-year-old Willie Deshon Willis of Grenada had been shot multiple times. He later succumbed to his injuries initiating a second homicide investigation.
According to GPD reports, the call of shots fired was received at approximately 4:41 a.m. on May 16. Paramedics with MedStat Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene, however, Willis was unresponsive. Grenada County Coroner Douglas “Little Bobby” Yates was then dispatched to the scene and transported Willis’ body to the Mississippi Forensics Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.
“Thus far, no arrest has been made in connection with the incident,” GPD Police Chief George Douglas said.
The homicide is an ongoing investigation.
