Just over two weeks following the murder of Grenada High School junior Ayden Reno, Grenada Police Department investigators find themselves in the midst of another homicide investigation.
According to GPD Chief George Douglas, 29-year-old Jarvis Terrell Anderson of West Pecan Street in Grenada was arrested early Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, and charged with First-Degree Murder – Deliberate Design in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Mercedes Harris.
“In the early morning hours of Oct. 7, 2025, on Tuesday, officers with the Grenada Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on West Pecan Street,” Chief Douglas said. “Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.”
Paramedics with MedStat Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene. Grenada County Coroner Douglas “Little Bobby” Yates later pronounced Harris deceased at the scene.
Anderson is currently behind bars in the Grenada County Jail with no bond, according to booking documents obtained by The Star on Wednesday morning, Oct. 8.
“The investigation remains active and ongoing,” Chief Douglas concluded. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim and urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Grenada Police Department.”
