The Grenada High School tennis team played three matches last week.
On March 14, GHS edged Class 6A Warren Central 4-3 and followed that with a 4-3 decision last Tuesday over the Madison Central B-team. The week ended last Thursday with a 7-0 region win over Olive Branch.
Olive Branch
Senior Shanvi Kher won a 6-0, 6-0 match over Valeria Mora in girls singles. Classmate Gabe Reyna downed Preston Munday in boys singles by scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Junior Mary Grace Klinck and senior Mary Pinson Jackson won a 6-0, 6-0 match against Lyla Maxwell and Lizzie Dina in girls doubles. Junior Zoe Beane and sophomore Natalie Fair swept past Zala Avila and Jackie Mendez by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Senior Ryan Williams and sophomore Jordan Shoemaker won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Jeremiah Hill and Caleb Jones. Junior Cameron King and eighth-grader Gordon Leung won their match by default.
Seniors Emily Finkley and Traveon Bullen defeated Marissa Arnold and Malik Davis by scores of 6-0, 6-0 in mixed doubles.
Madison Central
Shanvi Kher defeated Celeste Rings 6-2, 6-1 in girls singles, while Gabe Reyna lost 2-6, 6-7 (5-7) to Brandon Zhu in boys singles.
Mary Grace Klinck and Mary Pinson Jackson won a 6-1, 6-1 girls doubles match over Caroline Tolsdolf and Caitlyn Robertson. Zoe Beane and Natalie Fair won 6-1, 6-2 over Lalita Mylroie and Anaya Khan.
In boys doubles, Ryan Williams and Jordan Shoemaker lost 0-6, 2-6 to Mason Tessener and Austin Young. Freshmen Nate Woods and Jaxson Brown lost 0-6, 2-6 to Mitansh Choudary and Yuva Piereddy.
Traveon Bullen and Emily Finkley won 6-1, 6-0 over Gavin Pierce and Mary Cate Thomas in mixed doubles.
Warren Central
In a match played on March 14 in Vicksburg, it took a 6-2, 6-4 victory by Zoe Beane over Ava Henry to clinch the match victory for the Chargers.
Grenada also won in girls doubles as Mary Grace Klinck and Mary Pinson Jackson took a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Sydney Sullivan and Lilli Feibelman. Emily Finkley and Natalie Fair were a 6-0, 6-3 winners over Marlee Soloman and A.T. Hossley. Traveon Bullen and Shanvi Kher defeated Corbin Crews and Avery Horn by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
In other action, Ryan Williams and Jordan Shoemaker lost 5-7 and were leading 2-1 when they retired in their match with Luke Bond and Brady Taylor. Cameron King and Jaxson Brown lost 1-6, 0-6 to Sam Harris and Duke Esparza. Gabe Reyna lost a 1-6, 4-6 match with Whitt Taylor.
Grenada hosted Pillow Academy Monday and traveled to Center Hill Tuesday. Thursday, the Chargers host Saltillo in Class 6A, Region 1 action at 4 p.m.
