The Grenada High School tennis team opened postseason play last Tuesday at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven for the Class 6A, Region 1 Tournament. Individuals were competing for berths in the State Tournament, which is scheduled for late April in Vicksburg.
In girls action, senior Shanvi Kher won her third straight Region Title. She opened with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lake Cormorant. In the finals, she won a match over Saltillo by a 6-2, 6-0 score.
The mixed doubles team of seniors Traveon Bullen and Emily Finkley opened with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-1 win over Olive Branch before losing 1-6, 3-6 in the finals against Saltillo. They will move on to the state tournament.
In the girls doubles, it turned out to be an all Grenada final as senior Mary Pinson Jackson and junior Mary Grace Klinck faced junior Zoe Beane and sophomore Natalie Fair. Jackson and Klinck won a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the finals to win the title. The title was the third straight re-gion title. Both teams will advance to the state tournament.
The No. 1 boys doubles of sophomore Jordan Shoemaker and senior Ryan Williams won a6-4, 6-1 decision against Center Hill before losing 3-6, 1-6 to Saltillo. Eighth-grader Gordon Leung and sophomore Cameron King lost to Center Hill 6-7, 2-6.
In boys singles, senior Gabe Reyna opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lake Cormorant. Reyna had to forfeit his finals match due to sickness.
