Both the Grenada High School Chargers and Lady Chargers were both in a win or go home situation last week at the Class 6A, Region 1 Tournament hosted at South Panola High School.
Kendrick Conley’s girls opened played against Saltillo last Tuesday and cruised to a 70-39 victory, moving them to the semifinals. There, they faced top-seeded Olive Branch and dropped a 69-48 decision last Thursday.
The girls moved to the consolation playing Lake Cormorant. In that game, GHS emerged with a 57-46 win to finish third. GHS stands at 19-6 following the week of play.
GHS travesl to Canton in the opening round of the North 5A. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
On the boys side, the Chargers started tournament play with a 47-35 decision over host South Panola last Tuesday, which qualified them for the North 6A Tournament. Coach Roderick Moore’s team lost an 80-40 decision to Olive Branch last Thursday, putting them in the consolation game against Saltillo, which they lost a 47-45 decision.
They are currently 10-20 on the season and play at Ridgeland at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Girls
Junior Kalysia Tedford led with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals in the win over Saltillo. Senior Carlei Brown added 15 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Addyson White scored 10 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.
Senior Jamiya Hubbard scored 9 points. Junior August Hardiman had 4 points. Senior Madison Woodard had 3 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Sophomore Lexi Bratcher and junior Kaylee Barnes both had 3 points. Junior Erica Moss and Lazia Cotton both had 2 points.
Madison Woodard led GHS with 13 points in the loss to Olive Branch. Kalysia Tedford added 11 points and Carlei Brown scored 10 to go with 11 rebounds.
Carlei Brown had a game-high 17 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Lake Cormorant. Kalysia Tedford scored 13 points.
Boys
Senior Brody Jackson scored 13 points, junior Garran Edwards finished with 12 points and sophomore Braylon Hardiman chipped in 10 points against South Panola.
No other information was available on the semifinals and consolation games.
