The Grenada High School tennis team opened Class 6A, Region 1 play at home against South Panola last Thursday as the Chargers cruised to a 7-0 victory.
In singles action, senior Shanvi Kher won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Rosa Lee Spooner. Classmate Gabe Reyna downed Bailey Willoughby 6-1, 6-0.
The girls doubles team of junior Mary Grace Klinck and senior Mary Pinson Jackson cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ella Lang and Autumn Martin. Junior Zoe Beane and senior Emily Finkley won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Sarah Davis and Mariah Burnett.
In boys doubles, seniors Traveon Bullen and Ryan Williams won 6-1, 6-0 over Brandon Adair and J.B. Jones. Freshman Jaxson Brown and sophomore Cameron King won 6-2, 6-1 over Bailey McKee and Jake Harper.
The mixed double match saw sophomores Natalie Fair and Jordan Shoemaker down Aeriel Dodson and Braden McGee by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Oxford
On March 2, GHS lost a 5-2 decision at Class 7A Oxford.
Shanvi Kher downed Bramlett Sherman 6-0, 6-1 in girls singles. Mary Grace Klinck and Mary Pinson Jackson needed split sets to down Lainey Schuesslin and Anna Margaret by scores of 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-8.
In other action, Zoe Beane and Natalie Fair lost 7-5. 2-6, 3-10 to Anna Prescott Smith and Kennedy Crain. Ryan Williams and Cameron King dropped a 0-6, 0-6 match against Sam Shepherd and Andrew Koestler. Jordan Shoemaker and Traveon Bullen lost 1-6, 0-6 to Rigby Devera and Jackson Nemesk 0-6, 1-6.
The mixed doubles team of Emily Finkley and Gabe Reyna lost 1-6, 0-6 to Lotte Luber and Tal Turner.

GHS won a 6-1 decision over the Class 5A Jaguars. Junior Apryl Bennett won 6-3, 6-0 in girls single, while Traveon Bullen won a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Ashon Cannon in boys singles.
In doubles action, Zoe Beane and Natalie Fair came away with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Aliah Mays and Emma Gong.
Junior Taylor Swinford and sophomore Mary Ashton Surrell won 6-1, 6-1 over Talryn Banks and Kailyn Mclemore.
Senior Ryan Williams and Jordan Shoemaker won 6-1, 6-1 over Landon Hood and Samuel Shelton in boys singles. Freshman Nate Woods and Gordon Leung came away with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ohm Patel and J.T. Crawford. Junior Cameron King and freshman Aubree McDonald won 6-1, 6-0 over Mareelyn Winter and Locamm Gant.
Grenada will play in the Warren Central Tournament Saturday.
