Grenada Garden Club members are looking for ways to promote the publics awareness of the natural environment here in Grenada. On Sept. 2, 2020, the GGC Trails committee, including Margaret Davis, Chairman; Gwen Graham, Leigh Vance, Jennifer Sylvester and Jane Parks, met at the Holmes Grenada campus with Trent Little, Director of Holmes CC Facilities
Operations at Holmes Goodman Campus. Through partnership with Holmes, the club has established a walking trail through the Grenada campus and extending near UMMC and two extended care facilities.
In addition to encouraging the public in the habit of healthy walking, the trail provides several sites that are suitable for growing wildflowers and perennials. The club’s goal is to help sustain pollinators and insect species that are endangered due to urban development.
After selecting the best location for the wildflower bed, plans were finalized for building a planter, tilling, and preparing the bed for planting. The project will be funded through GGC and contributions of
labor and mulch by Holmes; club members will transplant selected plants.
The public is invited to watch the club¹s progress in establishing the bed.
The Grenada Garden Club is a member of The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
