A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grenada for Mr. Frank Peter Liberto, 77, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Oxford. Burial followed in the Liberto family plot in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Family and friends gathered for visitation from noon until service time on Thursday, Oct. 10, at the church.
Frank was born on March 23, 1947, in Grenada, the son of Anthony D. and Donie Marascalco Liberto. He was a graduate of John Rundle High School and earned a bachelor’s degree, majoring in biology and chemistry, from the University of Mississippi.
Frank worked for a number of years as the director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at the Grenada County Hospital. Later, he enjoyed his time in the classroom as a science teacher at Southaven High School. Frank was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grenada and a devout Catholic. Frank knew the importance of giving back to his community and served in numerous ways through the years, including his time of service as a member and past president of the Board of the Grenada County school system. Frank was an avid traveler and loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.
His parents preceded Frank in death.
Survivors include, his three daughters, Resie Gerken (Ryan) of Knoxville, Tenn., Gina Liberto (Thomas Auten) of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Sara Liberto of Palm Desert, Calif.; three sisters, Carrie Gibert (Stanley) of Knoxville, Tenn., Diane Davis Brown (Robert) of Coronado, Calif., and Christine Liberto of Santa Rosa, Calif.; five brothers, Dr. Vincent Liberto (Connie) of Jackson, Michael Liberto (Barbara) of Grenada, Dr. John Liberto of Biloxi, Christopher Liberto (Deanna) of Medina, Tenn., and Raymond Liberto (Myra) of Grenada; four grandchildren, Hampton Gerken, Campbell Gerken, Harrison Auten and Finn Auten; a host of nieces and nephews, and his special guardian angel, Lou Golding of Grenada.
