Each month, the Grenada County Farm Bureau office promotes agriculture in their office.
As part of this month’s education, the local insurance company chose to hatch bantam chickens.
“Sanford and Rhonda Bennett were gracious enough to supply the eggs, incubator and brooder,” Farm Bureau Membership Secretary Joann Harris said. “This was such a fun experience for everyone that entered the office.”
A contest to name Farm Bureau’s newest “little farmer” was also held during the hatching process. This small mannequin, which was named Sal, will stay located in the office now as part of Farm Bureau’s agriculture learning experience.
The top three winners of the naming contest were chosen with first-place winner Clara Hayes Swearengen taking home three of the newborn chicks. Second-place winners Summer and Talon Waters and third-place winner Martha Kate Harris took home two each.
“We would like to thank everyone who put in their suggestions,” Joann Harris concluded. “We can’t wait to show you what we have going on next.”
