Not all festivals are rays of sunshine. Despite the rain, the city’s largest festival, Downtown Jubilee was a complete success, according to organizers.
Johnnie Reed, pastor of The Covenant House Word of Faith Ministries, opened up the Sept. 10 festival with a word of prayer followed by Hannah Palazolla singing the National Anthem.
The Crossroad Cruisers Car Show was set up right off The Square.
“The cars and trucks were amazing,” Representative for Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce Alexia Gavin said. “We had so many wonderful people bring their beautiful cars and trucks out to show off.”
The late Bud Golding was this year’s Hometown Hero and his family was in attendance to receive the award in his honor. Also during the jubilee, Lt. Lawrence Austin Sr. was sworn in as the new military judge inside the Courthouse. Local musicians and school show choirs also preformed throughout the day on The Square.
With more than 70 vendors, you were sure to find something that sparked your interest.
“We had so many new vendors sign up this year,” Gavin said. “We loved that they chose our jubilee to be a part of. Every vendor had someone stop by and buy something.”
Once the rain settled, many festivalgoers were able to enjoy the swamp tour given by Robin Whitfield.
“The weather was a little off, but the jubilee still went on,” Gavin concluded. “To us, it was a success and I think everyone had an amazing time. We are already planning and looking forward to next years jubilee.”
