Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Elizabeth Comrie Sanford, 87, of Carrollton, who died on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, at her residence. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery in Carroll County. The Rev. Duncan Hill and Bro. Ken Salley officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn.
Elizabeth was born on Feb. 11, 1937, in Nottingham, England, the daughter of the late Ronald and the late Gladys Gaunt Stacey. She worked for many years as an LPN at the Care Inn in Greenwood. She enjoyed knitting, reading and collecting tea pots and cups. She was a devout Episcopalian.
In addition to her parents, her daughter, Louise E. Sanford; one son, Robert L. Sanford, and one brother, Danny Stacey, preceded Elizabeth in death.
Survivors include, her husband, James A. Sanford; two sons, Andrew J. Sanford and Edward A. Sanford, both of Carrollton; two sisters, Brenda Poiner and Vicky Oswin, both of Leicestershire, England; one brother, Robert Stacey of England; three granddaughters, Beth Hood of Grenada, Stacey Sanford of Oxford and Emma Sanford of Dallas, Texas; three grandsons, Jerry Bishop of Grenada, Matt Sanford of South Carolina and Sean Sanford of Carrollton; four great granddaughters, Baliegh Hood and Averi Hood of Grenada and Gemma Bishop and Eliza Bishop of Tupelo and two great grandsons, Tucker Hood of Grenada and Nico D’Emiddo of Oxford.
Kenny Hood, George King, Johnny King, Sean Sanford, Jamie Truelove and Neil Young honored Elizabeth by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in Bethel Cemetery. Edward Sanford served as an honorary pallbearer.
