Two Grenada men are behind bars for their alleged actions in a shooting that injured a juvenile on Lomax Street in Batesville as Springfest 2022 was wrapping up with the Jameson Rodgers concert on Batesville Square late last month.
The shooting, which occurred just after 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, sent festivalgoers ducking for cover as shots rang out. It has been reported that a total of eight gunshots were fired.
City of Batesville Police Department Chief Kerry Pittman said that Zyducius Rah’camary Jones, 18, and D’vontae D’Sean Journey, 18, both of Grenada, were arrested in connection with the shooting last week, according to published reports. Jones was taken into custody in Grenada by agents with the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
Both Jones and Journey have been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of shooting into a residence after a stray bullet entered a nearby home.
The injured juvenile, whose name has not been released, was transported to The Med in Memphis, Tenn., for treatment and recovery after providing information to law authorities.
According to “The Panolian,” Journey, who surrendered to authorities, made an initial appearance in Batesville Municipal Court last Wednesday morning where Judge Jay Westfaul set his bond at $3 million. Later in the day, the bond was lowered to $1 million by the court. A bond of $1 million requires the posting of $100,000 cash for release.
The case remains under investigation with the possibility of more arrests being made.
