Grenada County Circuit Court begins Thursday with a full slate scheduled for Mississippi’s Fifth Circuit District’s summer term.
A total of 66 cases have been scheduled on the circuit court calendar. Of those, 15 are drug cases in addition to several violent crime cases ranging from murder, aggravated assault and domestic violence.
According to the recently released court calendar, the more than a dozen drug cases ranging from possession of cocaine and marijuana to possession of methamphetamine will all be heard by Fifth Circuit Judge George Mitchell Jr. Of those cases, a majority of them are possession of methamphetamine.
Of the pending cases, several are first-degree murder charges.
In the State of Mississippi vs. Stephen Lee Black Jr., the defendant is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault. The case is in connection with the January shooting death of Markeeyson Hughes.
Hughes was shot while at a convenience store near Highway 8 and 51. He later died as a result of his injuries.
Black was arrested a month later by the Grenada Police Department.
In the State of Mississippi vs. Jevarian Young, the defendant is charged with accessory after the fact, murder, and two counts of accessory after the fact, aggravated assault. Those charges are in connection with the aiding and assisting two others who were charged with murder.
Of the pending cases, several are first-degree murder charges.
• In the State of Mississippi vs. Monique Lott, the defendant is charged with first-degree murder.
• In the State of Mississippi vs. Mack Lott, the defendant is charged with first-degree murder.
• In the State of Mississippi vs. Marquize Tillman, the defendant is charged with first-degree murder.
Tillman and Monique and Mack Lott were indicted for first-degree murder in connection with the November 2017 death of Willie Hooper. Hooper’s body was discovered in a well just off Highway 404 three days after he was reported missing by his family.
Other Cases
In the State of Mississippi vs. Lillian Smith Jameson individually and DBA Affordable Funeral Home, the defendant faces five counts of insurance fraud, conspiracy, embezzlement, false pretense and wire fraud. These indictments were handed down by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
