A Grenada grocery store manager was recently assaulted and hospitalized following a dispute over cashing a check and as a result a Holcomb man is facing stiff charges.
Detective Commander Kenith Sanders identified the man arrested as Jacob McNeer, 19. He was charged with aggravated assault.
“The aggravated assault charge stems from the severe injury that the victim suffered,” Sanders said.
The incident occurred earlier this month and according to arrest reports provided by the Grenada County Jail, McNeer was booked into the jail on Wednesday, June 23.
Sanders said that the assault occurred after McNeer attempted to cash a check at the grocery store’s customer service counter and was denied. Following the failed attempt, McNeer allegedly punched the manager in the head causing him to fall and sustain injuries.
Sanders said there were several eyewitnesses at the grocery store that saw what occurred, adding that the police department has also reviewed store surveillance.
“The victim was hurt pretty badly and was in the intensive care unit due to his injuries,” Sanders concluded. “He is still in the hospital and is having trouble with his left side.”
McNeer’s was released on a $5,000 bond shortly after his arrest.
The case remains under investigation, according to Sanders.
