A manhunt is underway for two inmates that escaped from the Grenada County Jail Sunday night.
At 6:45 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, Correctional Management Services, which, according to Grenada County Sheriff Rolando Fair, operates the facility, conducted a headcount, and discovered that two inmates were missing. At 6:55 a.m., the Warden notified the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office. Upon further investigation, it was determined that both inmates escaped at 10 p.m. Sunday.
Sheriff Fair identified the escaped inmates as 59-year-old Claude Terry Slaughter and 28-year-old Jonathan Wayne Miller. The inmates stole a City of Grenada work truck. The vehicle was recovered at 7:45 a.m. Monday unoccupied.
Slaughter is a 5-foot-11, 200-pound white male with brown hair and brown eyes. Miller is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound white male with brown hair and blue eyes.
Fair added that according to the Grenada County Board of Supervisors, the jail has been under contract with CMS for the last seven or eight years.
The inmates at this time are still on the run and considered armed and dangerous.
“We have called in other agencies, along with the United States Marshals Service to help us with this search,” Sheriff Fair said.
Updates will be released on The Star’s website and social media platforms as soon as it is made available.
Sheriff Fair asked that if you see these men or come in contact with the subjects, please contact the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department at (662) 227-2877 or the tips line at (662) 227-8477 or 911.
As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, the GCSO had not reported that Slaughter or Miller had been located or taken back into custody.
