According to published reports, a change of venue motion was filed by the attorney for 23-year-old Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr. of Grenada, who is accused of murder.
His attorney, Kevin Horan, said there has been extensive news coverage of the case, and they believe it will worsen moving forward. Because of the pretrial publicity, Horan said his client cannot receive a fair trial in Lafayette County.

Jimmie “Jay” Lee, 20, was last seen at an apartment complex in Oxford. Lee was well known in the LGBTQ community in Oxford.
Herrington was arrested two weeks after Lee vanished. He was indicted for capital murder in March 2023, and has been out of jail on a $250,000 bond since December 2022. Herrington’s trial was scheduled for Oct. 15.
