The Grenada City Council voted during a special-called meeting on Dec. 18, 2025, to move its regularly scheduled January 2026 meeting to a later date so members could attend the Mississippi Municipal League’s Mid-Winter Legislative Conference in Jackson.
The council voted to reschedule the meeting from 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15. The change will allow city officials to participate in the statewide municipal event, which runs from Jan. 13 through 15 in downtown Jackson.
The MML’s 2026 Mid-Winter Legislative Conference is expected to draw more than 600 local government officials from across Mississippi for discussions on legislative issues affecting cities and towns. For the first time, the conference will be held at the Westin Jackson, where participants will attend meetings, networking events and state agency presentations aimed at strengthening municipal leadership.
A highlight of the annual conference will be “MML Day at the Capitol” on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when the League will provide transportation to the Mississippi State Capitol for attendees. The event offers mayors, council members and other municipal leaders the chance to meet with state legislators and share feedback on issues critical to local governments. The bus will depart from the Westin at 8:30 a.m.
Following the visit to the Capitol, the opening general session that afternoon will feature updates from MML committees and special presentations. Speakers will include representatives from the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office discussing tax-forfeited properties and officials from the Mississippi Development Authority addressing economic development initiatives.
The conference will conclude Thursday morning, Jan. 15, with a general session breakfast featuring several key state leaders. Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson, Attorney General Lynn Fitch, Mississippi Department of Transportation Executive Director Brad White, and Commissioner of Insurance Mike Chaney are all scheduled to deliver agency updates.
