The Grenada Kiwanis Club is bringing in the Memorial Day weekend in sizzling style as the civic organization plans for a fish fry event with proceeds going to the local area children.
Club President Jan Liles said the Kiwanis Club Fundraising Fish Fry is scheduled for this Saturday in the parking lot of Cork and Bottle, located at 1331 South St.
“We didn’t get to have the pancake breakfast the past couple of years, so we’re holding a fish fry instead,” she said.
Liles said George Henson, owner of Catfish Corner, will provide a trailer to cook the catfish. Plates will include fish, French fries and Cole slaw. The cost is $10 per plate.
“Under the circumstances we were under, we couldn’t hold our annual pancake breakfast,” Liles continued. “From the hours of 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., we will be out there serving plates. We’re hoping for a big turnout for the event.”
For more than 65 years, the Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast has been a spring staple in the community. Over the years, proceeds from the pancake breakfast have supported local Boy Scouts, Christmas in April, the Elizabeth Jones Library and other local programs.
“The proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the same organizations,” Liles concluded.
