Members of the 100 Black Men of Grenada, Inc., are preparing this week for a Virtual Town Hall meeting to give follow-up reports regarding a meeting about social inequality and injustice, which was held in Grenada in June 2020 on the Downtown Square.
Citizens from all parts of Grenada attended the meeting last June and positive comments came from all in attendance.
“This was one of the best meetings I have been to since I have been in Grenada,” Janice Michael, owner of JAS Cuff & Co., said.
Roger Givens, president of the 100 Black Men of Grenada, is working hard to see that the city can learn to work together. He is asking for those that are able to join him at 11 a.m. on March 26 for the virtual meeting.
“The main focus was on how we can work together and what we should be doing from a Biblical standpoint,” Givens said of last year’s meeting. “There were no clashing issues and there was a great mixture of black and whites at this meeting.”
Larry Webster, Dean of Career & Technical Education of Coahoma Community College, spoke on social inequality and injustice in 2020. Grenada County Sheriff Rolando Fair and City of Grenada Chief of Police George Douglas requested training from Webster.
“After the meeting Fair suggested Dr. Webster host a workshop on adversity for his law enforcement.” Givens said.
Not only did the county get involved with the workshop, but the city and Holmes Community College joined in as well.
“This is just one of the many immediate great results we have seen from our previous meeting,” Givens added.
The Rev. Dr. S.L. Blake, pastor of Burning Bush Missionary Baptist Church, and Tarik Johnson, Montgomery County youth court Judge, will be joining Webster, Fair and Douglas on this Saturday’s call.
